Musnad of 'Abdullah bin al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib from the Prophet

ENGLISH

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) that

The delegation of ‘Abdul-Qais came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), among whom was al-Ashajj, from Banu 'Asar. They said: O Prophet of Allah (ﷺ), we are a tribe of Rabee'ah, and between us and you are the kuffar of Mudar, we cannot come to you except during the sacred months. Tell us of something that if we follow it, we will enter Paradise and we can call those who are beyond us to it. And he enjoined upon them four things and forbade to them four things. He enjoined them to worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him; to fast Ramadan; to perform pilgrimage to the House; and to give one fifth of the war booty (khumus). And he forbade them to do four things: to drink from green glazed pitchers, gourds, hollowed-out stumps and varnished jars. They said: From what should we drink, Messenger of Allah? He said: "You should use leather skins that are tied at the mouth.”
