Hadith 3512
Musnad of 'Abdullah bin al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib from the Prophet
It was narrated that Abut-Tufail said:
I said to Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه): Your people are saying that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) trotted around the House and that it is Sunnah. He said: They are telling the truth and they are lying. I said: How are they telling the truth and lying? He said: They are telling the truth, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did trot around the House, but they are lying because it is not Sunnah. At the time of al-Hudaibiyah, Quraish said: Leave Muhammad and his Companions alone until they die like the worm that falls from the nose of an animal (an-naghaf: said to belittle a man and remark on his weakness). When it was agreed that they would come the following year and stay in Makkah for three days, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came and the mushrikeen were watching from the direction of Qu'aiqi'an. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his Companions: "Trot around the House three times.” But it is not Sunnah.
